A grillage analysis for a bridge abutment supported on fixed or rotational springs using a stiffness matrix based on 3 degrees of freedom at each joint – vertical deflection and 2 rotations. Loading is by joint forces or moments in 2 directions. Rotational restraints can be modelled for wing walls and bridge deck supports where applicable. Model facilitates the analysis of earth pressures and vehicle surcharge loading.
